White Buffalo Gallery - Weapons and Accoutrements

Boys learned at an early age about war by watching the older boys engage in war games with each other. In this way, they learned how to defend themselves against an enemy tribe during battle.

Although the bow and arrow was the warriors primary weapon, it was not necessarily the best choice for every need. Therefore, warriors became equally adept with other weapons, such as the knife, lance, hatchet, warclub, and during the trade days - firearms.

BOW AND ARROWS/

BOW CASE AND QUIVER

$650

This quiver and bow case is made of deer hide, trimmed with blue and white seed beads. The bow (decorator model) is made of hard wood and the arrows feature steel tips and turkey tail feather fletching. (Shootable bows available.)

CUSTOM KNIFE AND SHEATH

$550

This sheath is decorated with lazy stitch beadwork on hand-dyed tradecloth, which is mounted on harness leather. The scalplocks are human hair topped with tin cones and the medicine wheel in the center is wrapped with porcupine quills. The knife features a heavy blade set in an elk antler.

BRASS TACK SHEATH AND GREEN RIVER KNIFE

$250

Green River knives were traded throughout the Northern Plains and Rockies during the fur trade era (1775 - 1840). Some sheaths were made from harness leather decorated with brass tacks.

CUSTOM ALLIGATOR KNIFE AND SHEATH

$250

This knife and sheath is more indicative of the Southeastern tribes, but an attractive piece nonetheless. The blade is set in an antler handle and the sheath is made from the tail of an alligator.

COMANCHE KNIFE

$425

One of the most distinguishing characteristics of Comanche artwork is the use of long, twisted fringe, dyed green. This sheath is brain-tanned deer hide mounted on harness leather with the beaded pattern done in lazy stitch. The knife is a beaver tail style dagger.
